Mato SHIPYARDS (TH6)

NOTE: On some SSDs the fighter/shuttles have shaded boxes, these represent the crippled the status of the fighter/shuttle.
NOTE: On some SSDs the crew check-off boxes have a 'B' or 'D' in them, these represent the crew units that are Boarding Parties or Deck Crews.
NOTE: All Mato ships can land and take off from a planet using all landing systems.

The Mato are descended from a bear like race. Large and powerful (it is said that no Mato has ever been defeated in unarmed combat by another species), they lived a primitive life on their home planet. Enslaved by the Tholians, who found the Mato to be adaptable for their labor need, many Mato were taken from their home world to different planets throughout the Galaxy. What the Tholian did not realize was that the Mato were highly intelligent, and were learning from their masters. After generations of enslavement, the Tholians populated a number of worlds with Mato to satisfy their labor needs, and began to allow Mato to visit their homeworld. These 'trained' Mato brought with them the secrets of the Tholian weapons. Soon contact was made with the Wikasans and Tartellans, who help the Mato build their own ships. While few in numbers, the appearance of the Mato fleet, which could move and fire through web, along with the turning of the Selts, were the prime reasons the alliance was able to overthrow the Tholians.  In the following war against the Selts and Symbiote, the Mato ships paid a key role in the Independence of the Alliance.

The Mato are ruled by a Clan structure, each clan being equal and controlling their own fleet.  Little is known how the Clans operate, the Mato being very secretive. The Mato have a naturalistic religious structure, worshipping natural events. A ritualistic hunt being a important part of their beliefs system.

The Mato built their ships in Wicasan and Tartellan shipyards. They used conventional Tholian weapons, phasers and particle cannons, which they had previously manufactured for the Tholians.  They did not use fighters. Mato ships are very maneuverable, and can pass and fire through Tholian Web as if they were Tholian (another present from their Tholian masters). In fact, most of the Mato ship designs were derived from the Tholian PC.

(TH601) LIGHT CRUISER (CL) This was the largest ship operated by the Matu. This ship was very rare and expensive, but with its ability to move and fire through web as if it was a Tholian, it was highly valuable against them.

(TH602) DESTROYER (DD) This was a more commonly seen Mato ship. Based on a stretched FF, it was a vital part of the Alliance fleet.

(TH605) SCOUT (SC) A variant of the DD, it was introduced to provide electronic support to the fleet. This ship was even more rare than the LSC, as the Mato generally relied on their allies for scout support.

(TH609) PHASER DESTROYER (DDG) A variant of the destroyer, the DDG often served in alliance fleets to support ships attempting to penetrate webs with phaser fire. About one out of every four destroyers were DDGs.

(TH603) FRIGATE (FF) This (along with the CO) was the most commonly seen Mato ship. Developed from the Tholian PC, it was built in the most numbers. Most of the Wikasa (as well as Tartella) FF production went toward building this ship.

(TH608) PHASER FRIGATE (FFG) This ship is a slightly rare variant of the frigate. It replaces 2 particle cannons with phasers to enable it to fight through web.

(TH606) LIGHT SCOUT (LSC) A variant of the FF, it was introduced to provide electronic support to the fleet. This ship was rare, but more numerous than the SC, as the Mato generally relied on their allies for scout support.

(TH604) CORVETTE (CO) Besides the Frigate, this was the most commonly used Mato ship. Used in great numbers to penetrate webs and attack Tholian ships, it was the closest thing the Mato had to a fighter.

(TH607) GUNBOAT (GB) This ship is a rare variant of the corvette. It replaces 2 phasers with particle cannons.
