Pg 157 - Michael realizes exactly why vampires count.   (This bit was deemed too humorous for the dark mood of the Nocturne series.)

Suddenly Michael smacked his forehead with an open palm.   "The Count!" he exclaimed gleefully.   "Jane, I've just had an epiphany.   I can't believe it.   All this time..."

         "I don't understand?"

"The Count from Sesame Street?   You know, the vampire muppet who is always counting?"

She shook her head, vaguely aware of the children's show, but not following Michael's direction.

"He was my favorite as a kid.   And I just got it.   I always thought he counted because he was a count, you know?   But it was because he's a vampire.   The Count couldn't not count.   Man, the makers of that program did their research."

         "Okay," she offered slowly.

"You know I dressed up as the Count for my second grade Halloween party?   Yeah, it was cool until I tried to bite Sunshine Barbie.   My mother had to come pick me up after she got an angry call from the teacher.   But man!"   He ran his fingers back through his hair.   "I've always been a counter.   Isn't that freaky?"

         "Makes sense."

         "Doesn't it?"   He whistled appreciatively.

"So," she released hold on the seam, "you're feeling less peckish today?"
