HISTORY OF THE LIFE OF MRS. MARGARET JOHNSON
Sterling Evening Gazette--Tuesday, February 11, 1913
Miss Margaret Still was born in Ohio, September 21, 1831. When a young girl, she with her parents moved to Shawneeton, Ill. Later the family moved to Fulton, going up the river by boat, as that was the only means of travel at that time. At the age of 22 years she was married to Abraham Johnson June 5, 1854. Mr. Johnson died November 16, 1867. Shortly after their marriage they moved to what is known as the city of Morrison, at that time composed of four houses. The railroad had not been built at that time and the only means of travel was by oxen. The site of the city of Morrison was a grove in which bands of roving Indians made their camp. To Mr. and Mrs. Johnson seven children were born, five girls and two boys, four girls dying in infancy. The remaining three consist of Mrs. P.K. Smith of Lena, Ill., Curtis of Prescott, Ia., and Milford of Sterling. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, one brother, David Still of Santa Monica, Cal., and a sister, Mrs. Mary Libby of Parkville, Missouri.
Mrs. Johnson died at the Caroline Marx home in Mt. Carroll, February 2, 1913 and the body was taken to Morrison where the funeral was held Sunday afternoon in the Methodist Church, Rev. Abel officiating. Interment was in Morrison by the side of her husband and children.
She was a resident of Morrison for over 60 years and was an active worker in the Universalist church. Besides the sorrowing relatives, she leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her departure.
