Still Searching...

A Genealogical Quest for my Still Family (and Whiteside County, Illinois) Roots

My name is Dawn Everling, and I am on a genealogical journey of discovery. My research has carried me back through more than four centuries of my family's history ---across continents and countries, oceans and rivers, ---in cities and small towns. When some little piece of information fills in a part of the puzzle, I feel like I've uncovered a treasure. All of my searches are important to me. But there are certain places, and certain family names, that burn brighter in my heart---that beg to be explored more completely. My mother's grandfather, Milford JOHNSON, was born in Morrison, Whiteside County, Illinois on December 21, 1865, to Abram/Abraham and Margaret (STILL) JOHNSON. (Abram/Abraham JOHNSON was born in Lincolnshire, England in 1830.  Margaret STILL was born ca 1831 in Ohio. ) It is Milford's background that keeps me awake sometimes, because I need to know who and where he came from. This page is a presentation of some of what I have discovered about the JOHNSON and STILL families, and the county they lived in, as well as other branches of my family tree. I've compiled a list of people doing research on various STILL/STELL/STILLE/STELLE families, with a short listing of who and what they are looking for. So far, there are 89 researchers listed.  If you have a query about a STILL/STELL/STILLE/STELLE family, please e-mail me...If you are already on the list and your e-mail address has changed, please let me know.

My husband,  Charles Everling,  is also very involved in genealogy. Some of his lines are: EVERLING, CURRENT, MOUGEY, BIRD, and MAGNET. His homepage includes a transcript of the diary kept by his great-grandmother, Emmaline CURRENT BIRD, on her Journey through Yellowstone Park in 1896. The trip took nearly a month on horseback. Emmaline was 65 years old at the time.  It is fascinating reading, especially if you've been to Yellowstone Park.
