GOD IS OMNIPOTENT - ALL POWERFUL

·        Last week we looked at the character of God and established that God is just not on his thrown in Heaven, but he also dwells in his worshippers through the Holy Spirit.

 

·        Jesus said: “The Kingdom of God is inside you”.

 

·        With that concept in mind we will continue this morning our study on the character and attributes of God.

 

·        GOD IS ALL OMNI POTENT AND POWERFUL

 

·        WE ARE NOT GOING TO LOOK AT WHY GOD IS POWERFUL OR HOW GOD IS POWERFUL – HE JUST IS POWERFUL.

 

·        KNOWBODY KNOWS THE HOWS AND WHYS OF GOD.

 

·        GOD SAYS “I AM THAT I AM”.

 

·        HE IS WHO HE IS!

1.      GOD IS OMNIPOTENT WHICH MEANS GOD IS ALL ___________________(POWERFUL) – GOD IS NOT LIMITED AND THERE IS NOTHING HE CANNOT DO OR ACCOMPLISH. ALL THINGS ARE __________________(POSSIBLE) WITH GOD!

Jeremiah 10:6-13 (pg. 543) says:

6 No one is like you, O LORD;
       you are great,
       and your name is mighty in power.

 7 Who should not revere you,
       O King of the nations?
       This is your due.
       Among all the wise men of the nations
       and in all their kingdoms,
       there is no one like you.

 8 They are all senseless and foolish;
       they are taught by worthless wooden idols.

 9 Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish
       and gold from Uphaz.
       What the craftsman and goldsmith have made
       is then dressed in blue and purple—
       all made by skilled workers.

10 But the LORD is the true God;
       he is the living God, the eternal King.
       When he is angry, the earth trembles;
       the nations cannot endure his wrath.

 11 "Tell them this: 'These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.' " [a]

 12 But God made the earth by his power;
       he founded the world by his wisdom
       and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.

 13 When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar;
       he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.
       He sends lightning with the rain
       and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

 

·        The prophet Jeremiah is declaring how powerful God is and how foolish it is to make idols out of wood and gold that are worshipped as God.

 

·        What idols do you give power to?

 

·        Are you trusting your own intelligence or the intelligence of this world?

 

·        Is there something that you are declaring that is more powerful than God either consciously or subconsciously?

 

·        If there is, then that thing or person has become an idol for you.

 

·        In truth God alone is all powerful

  Jeremiah 32:17 (pg. 561) says:

 17 "Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. 18 You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps of their children after them. O great and powerful God, whose name is the LORD Almighty, 19 great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to all the ways of men; you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve.

Psalm 147:5 says:

5 Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
       his understanding has no limit.

·        God is all powerful- all things are possible with him!

 Mark 10:25-29 (pg. 716) says:

Jesus said,

25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

 26The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?"

 27Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

·        God is a powerful God

 

2. GOD ________________(SPOKE) TO NOTHINGNESS AND IT __________________(OBEYED) HIM AND BECAME WHAT GOD SAID!

 

·        He created the Universe and everything in it by speaking it into existence.

 

“LET IT BE SO”

 

Genesis 1:1-31 says:

 

1 In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth.

 2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

 29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

3. GOD’S POWER IS CONTAINED IN HIS_____________(WORD) – THE BIBLE!

 

Proverbs 30:5 says:

 5 "Every word of God is flawless;
       he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Isaiah 55:8-11 says:

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
       neither are your ways my ways,"
       declares the LORD.

 9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
       so are my ways higher than your ways
       and my thoughts than your thoughts.

 10 As the rain and the snow
       come down from heaven,
       and do not return to it
       without watering the earth
       and making it bud and flourish,
       so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
       It will not return to me empty,
       but will accomplish what I desire
       and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Romans 1:16 says:

16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

THERE IS POWER IN THE WORD OF GOD!

 

Hebrews 1:3 says:

3The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Hebrews 4:12-13 says:

12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Jeremiah 23:28-29 says:

28 Let the prophet who has a dream tell his dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?" declares the LORD. 29 "Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

·        God’s power is unleashed through the spoken word.

Romans 10:17 says:

17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

 

Matthew 7:24-27 says:

 

 24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

 

4) THERE IS NO SEPARATION BETWEEN GOD AND HIS WORD – THE _____________(WORD) IS _________(GOD) AND GOD IS THE WORD!

 

John 1:1-5,14 (pg. 750) says:

 

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.

  14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[d] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

1 Peter 1:20-25 (pg. 857) says:

20He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

 22Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.[a] 23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

5) GOD’S WORD IS LIKE A POWERFUL ___________(SEED) THAT WE ARE TO _____________(PLANT) IN OUR ________________(HEARTS).

 

Luke 8:5-15 (pg. 731) says:

5"A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up. 6Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown."
      When he said this, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

 9His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10He said, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that,
   " 'though seeing, they may not see;
      though hearing, they may not understand.'[a]

 11"This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. 14The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

·        All of us are planting words into our Hearts by faith.

 

·        Either it is the Devil’s word or God’s Word.

 

·        When you plant the Devils word, the world’s word or someone else word in your heart like fear you will feel week and exhausted.

 

·        When you tell yourself things like: We are in a recession and gas prices are heart I cant make ends meet that will be your reality which will drain energy from you.

 

·        When you tell yourself. “God supplies all my needs and I do not worry about tomorrow because God knows my needs before I do and the abundance I need is already here in my midst” you will have energy and mountain moving faith.

 

·        Jesus is the word – the word is Jesus.

 

·        WHEN UOU PLANT THE WORD IN YOUR ARE, YOU ARE PLANTING GOD IN YOUR HEART BECAUSE GOD IS THE WORD!

 

·        WHEN YOU PLANT THE WORD IN YOUR HEART, YOU THEREBY PLANT JESUS IN YOUR HEART – THAT IS POWER LIVING IN YOU, THE KINGDOM WITHIN!

 

·        GOD’S WORD IS THE SEED OF SALVATION THAT IS PLANTED IN YOUR HEART.

 

·        When you plant God’s Word in your heart like a seed you will experience God’s powerful kingdom reigning inside of you.

 

·        GOD’S POWERFUL KINGDOM GROWS UP WITHIN YOU WHEN HIS WORD IS PLANTED IN YOUR HEART!

 

Romans 1:16-17 says:

 

 16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[a] just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."[b]

 

Mark 4:26-29 says:

 

 26He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."

 

·        Just keep reading God’s word everyday and one day you will make up and be in perfect peace. W

 

What happened?

 

·        You put God’s seed in the soil of your heart and the Kingdom grew up within you in all it’s power!

 

Ephesians 3:20 says:

20Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

·        JUST LIKE GOD THE FATHER SPOKE THE WORD, SO TOO JESUS SPOKE FORTH THE WORD OF GOD.

 

6) LIKE JESUS, AFTER PLANTING THE WORD IN OUR HEARTS, WE ARE TO ______________(SPEAK) FORTH THE _______________(WORD) WHICH CONTAINS GOD’S POWER.

 

·        JESUS SPOKE TO PEOPLE, TREES AND THINGS AND THEY OBEYED HIM.

Matthew 17:18 – 22 says:

18Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.

 19Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"

 20He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."[a]

 22When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.

·        Jesus spoke God’s Word to the devil and the devil left him alone.

 

Matthew 4:1-11 says:

 

 1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."

 4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'[a]"

 5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
   " 'He will command his angels concerning you,
      and they will lift you up in their hands,
   so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'[b]"

 7Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'[c]"

 8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."

 10Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'[d]"

 11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

·        Jesus spoke to the Devil and the Devil left him without getting a foothold.

 

·        When Jesus cursed the fig tree it died.

 

·        When Jesus commanded Lazarus and the little girl  to rise from the dead, they rose from the grave.

 

·        BELIEVERS HAVE THE SAME AUTHORITY TO SPEAK GOD’S WORD WHICH CONTAINS HIS POWER.

 

7. JESUS GAVE HIS DISCIPLES THE AUTHORITY TO _________________(SPEAK) GOD’S ____________(WORD) TO PROBLEMS AND PROMISED THEY WOULD HAVE _________________(POWERFUL) RESULTS.

 

Mark 11:20-24 (pg. 717) says:

 

 20In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" 22"Have[a] faith in God," Jesus answered. 23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Luke 17:3-6 (Pg. 741) says:
      

3"If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. 4If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."

 5The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"

 6He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.

Matthew 18:18-19 says:

 18"I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be[a]bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[b] loosed in heaven.

 19"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

QUESTION: HOW COME NOT EVERYTHING A CHRISTIAN SPEAKS COMES TO PASS?

 

8) GOD GIVES PROTECTION, PROVISIONS AND POWER TO HIS CHILDREN IN ____________(SEED) FORM (THE WORD OF GOD IS LIKE A SEED) AND IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ________________(PLANT) THE SEED IN OUR ________________(HEARTS) BEFORE WE ________________(SPEAK) IT FORTH.

 

For example, King David knew that God’s Word was powerful seed and he planted it in his heart, so it could grow from the inside out.

 

Psalm 46 (pg. 403) says:

 

1 God is our refuge and strength,
       an ever-present help in trouble.

 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
       and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

 3 though its waters roar and foam
       and the mountains quake with their surging.
       Selah

 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
       the holy place where the Most High dwells.

 5 God is within her, she will not fall;
       God will help her at break of day.

 6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
       he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

 7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
       the God of Jacob is our fortress.
       Selah

 8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
       the desolations he has brought on the earth.

 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
       he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
       he burns the shields [b] with fire.

 10 "Be still, and know that I am God;
       I will be exalted among the nations,
       I will be exalted in the earth."

 11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
       the God of Jacob is our fortress.
       Selah

·        This is triumphant confession of fearless trust in God, though the continents break up and sink beneath the resurging waters of the seas.

 

·        Though creation itself may seem to become uncreated and all may appear to be going down before the onslaught of the primeval deep.

 

·        The described upheaval is probably imagery for great threats to Israel’s existence, especially from her enemies.

 

·        The city of God is Zion – symbolic of where God lives.

 

·        JERSUALEM HAD NO RIVER.

 

·        YET SHE HAD A RIVER – a metaphor the continuing outpouring of the sustaining and refreshing blessings of God, which made the city of God like the garden of Eaten.

 

·        At break of day – when attacks against cities were likely to be launched.

 

·        His help brings on the dawn of deliverance, dispelling the night of danger.

 

·        “BE STILL” connotes “ENOUGH” or “STOP” in the Hebrew and know that I AM GOD AND TO BE EXALTED!

 

9) MANY PEOPLE IN THE BIBLE SUCH AS KING DAVID USED__________________ __________________(PRAYER AFFIRMATIONS) WHICH ARE _________________(PRAISES) OF GOD’S GOODNESS AND POWER  - THEY WROTE, SPOKE AND SANG THESE AFFIRMATIONS AND PRAISES TO KEEP THEIR MINDS FOCUSSED ON GOD AND TO WORSHIP HIM.

 

·        Affirmations of God’s goodness often times release his power.

 

·        When it was made known to me that we need $10,000 for our loan to say good – I sought the Lord for advice.

 

·        I heard that small still voice say Isaiah 33:13

 

·        This is not a scripture I have memorized before, so I did know  what it said, so I looked it up.

 

Isaiah 33:13 says:

 

“You who are far away, hear what I have done; you who are near acknowledge my power!”

 

·        Now this was a specific word for me, but perhaps this is a word for the entire church body at New Heights.

 

·        Could it be as we get better at “ACKNOWLEDGING GOD’S POWER” we will see more manifestations for God’s power.

 

·        When we acknowledge God’s power within us, we do not get fearful or anxious with tough circumstances come our way.

 

·        This past month, I simply acknowledged God’s power – that he already showed up and provided.

 

·        Even when people suggested we do fundraisers to raise the $10,000 I know that I was to wait on God BE STILL AND KNOW THAT IAM IS GOD and Acknowledge His Power the power that is not outside of me, bit in me through Christ who strengthens me!

 

·        The I AM lives in you.

 

·        Every time you speak the words, “I AM” you are saying God’s name.

 

·        Jesus also referred to himself as “I AM”

 

·        He said, I AM the way, the truth and the life…I AM the bread of life…I AM the living water…I AM the Alpha and Omega…I AM the light of the world.

 

·        He then told his followers, “You are the light of the world” because God’s Spirit will come.

 

·        The Bible says GOD IS SPIRIT.

 

·        Therefore watch carefully what comes after the words, “IAM” either they represent God or they do not.

Isaiah 33:13 says:

 13 You who are far away, hear what I have done;
       you who are near, acknowledge my power!

Isaiah 13:2-3 says:

2 Surely God is my salvation;
       I will trust and not be afraid.
       The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song;
       he has become my salvation."

 3 With joy you will draw water
       from the wells of salvation.

 10) GOD IS __________________(FAITHFUL) TO _______________(GROW) HIS __________________(KINGDOM) WHERE THE ALL POWERFULL _____________(WORD) IS _____________(PLANTED).

·        WHEN YOU PLANT THE WORD IN YOUR HEART IT WILL TAKE ROOT AND THE POWERFUL KINGDOM WILL BE ESTABLISHED WITHIN YOU!

Jude 24 says:

 

24To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—

·        GOD IS ALL POWERFUL AND HE GAVE US THAT POWER IN THE FORM OF HIS WORD - SEED WHICH WE ARE TO PLANT IN OUR HEART, MINDS AND SOUL.

 

·        THEN THE KINGDOM OF GOD WILL GROW UP WITHIN US WITH MIGHTY POWER!

Philippians 4:13 says:

13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
