EAGTIP19 [This is an example of a short Eagle Scout Court of Honor script which may be used as part of a local celebration or (gasp!) a "Troop Pot Luck Supper".] Larry Rinaldo writes: Hey fellow Scouters! I have two requests that deal with Ceremonies. First, the is a young man being awarded his Eagle during a Troop Pot Luck supper. The boys mom does not want anything LONG but does want something that is RESPECTFUL and SHORT. Any Suggestions? If there available via FTP let me know where, Thanks. [Note: FTP is "file transfer protocol. It allows a Scouter to "log onto" a remote system for the purpose of retrieving information. It is a LOT faster than the downloading of a file from a Bulletin Board, since the file comes straight from the remote computer to your computer's account. At the present time, Scouts-L does NOT have a FTP site but there has been several offers to port (store) copies of our archives at other locations. ] Second, my bos (ADC) give ceremonies to every unit he can visit. I think he likes doing it, and its his way to check out the units. In any event, does anyone out there have ANY INDIAN ceremonies? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= From: August Treubig Larry, Hello, from New Orleans. I would suggest that you get in touch with your OA Chapter or Lodge. They may have an Eagle Ceremony as part of their standard Ceremony package. They may be able to come in and do one for you. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= From: WKUVX2::WALTOML "Settummanque, the blackeagle" Larry Rinaldo writes: >First, the is a young man being awarded his Eagle during a Troop Pot Luck >supper. Why, Larry?? Doesn't that Troop know ANYTHING about having a Eagle Court of Honor?? Where was that Unit or District Commissioner when theEagle package was sent to the Troop?? The Eagle Court of Honor is a SPECIAL CEREMONY done under the auspices of the Boy Scouts of America. That's the reason why it's *usually held* SEPARATE from the normal Troop Court of Honor or Ship Bridge of Honor (or Post Awards Ceremony). The Eagle Scout Badge is the highest youth award in the Boy Scouting program, and it deserves more than a mere presentation during a regular activity. Please relay that to the Eagle's mother. It is quite possible that she doesn't realize what an acheivement this really is, in the eyes of the BSA as well as in the eyes of her son. rH &t>zBFZn~*nf j`^_5 P$@I4`8IRHH[` W66ubY0@&(*.,e( Pa<> ?? @"pp"pp"pp[` W6u)Y"p246:8e( Pa@B ? @"pp"pp"pp( tTђ xH33'4"g5˸AX͌kN_Gt33[g5PhUAu]ZYX˂3 tt2 '[V]45ԀuA֚g5SVRNһ$3[^ԉhًZYù o^Vd6B 0!&*G 0v&* E 0 bn:&N_` Wll?Y# p$&(,*m( P a.0 YY P| p pp"pp" GB@#HHP@6:HHHH@ V@E tH @@Y@h @F @P@Q@% C@P>H'(H_H!HИH HHH@l@@HH-[HJ@l@m(H&HjH >H!|H Hj;,@ @@,H+H@T@ Z@}YH@Lour communy supportedou while yo completed t service pr"pp"pph A ' @ + E 8 R _ l y / < @ V c p } " @ 4 N [ I u this special neckerchief, emblematic of all Eagle Scouts everywhere, to you. Your fellow Patrol and Troop members assisted you greatly. Your friends and those in your community supported you while you completed the service projects in the Troop. Any Suggestions? Okay...here's a script for a presentation that I participated in while on active duty. We presented a Eagle Scout Badge to a young man that earned it before he entered Active duty and when he arrived at our post (Fort Sill, OK), the Post Commander (also the Council's President at that time) wanted me to come up with something that would work militarily at the same time accomphish the National Court of Honor's guidelines. Here it is: Participants: Eagle Scout Eagle Scout's Mother Eagle Scout's Father Scoutmaster Commissioner (or Executive) Volunteer Scouter Presenter Eagle Scout escorts (four Eagles) Commissioner: "At this time, on behalf of the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America, I hereby conviene this Court of Honor for the purpose of present the Eagle Scout Badge to Eagle Scout (name). Will everyone please stand and will the escorts please bring forward the Eagle Scout to the front of the room." (Eagle escort brings the Eagle Scout forward to the assembled group) Commissioner: "The Eagle Scout Badge is the highest youth award which may be earned by a member of the Boy Scouting program. It represents another step forward by the Scout toward the BSA's goals of developing citizeship, of imparting character development and enhancing personal fitness. While the Eagle Scout Badge is one of seven badges which the Scout earns, the achievement of the Eagle Scout Badge is indeed the highest honor that a Scout may achieve. "Scout (name), will you please face the audience, raise your right hand in the Scout sign and please repeat the Scout Oath." (Eagle Scout repeats the Scout Oath) Commissioner: "Thank you, Eagle Scout (name). At this time, I wish to call upon your Scoutmaster [note: we used another Scouter whom was a Scoutmaster of a Troop on the post] to wish you well." Scoutmaster: "Eagle Scout (name), I wish to congraduate you upon this achievement on behalf of the boys and adults of Troop 000. We are all extremely proud of your achievement and equally proud of your progress along the Scouting trail. You are a marked man. As an Eagle Scout, you ahve assumed a solemn obligation to do your duty to God, to this country, to your fellow Scouts and to mankind in general. This is a great undertaking. As you live up to your obligations you bring honor to yourself and to your brother Scouts. America has many good things to give you and your children after you; but these good things depend for the most part on the quality of her citizens. Our country has had a great past. You can help make the future even greater. I charge you to undertake your citizenship with a solemn dedication. Be a leader, but lead only toward the best. Lift up every task you do and every office you hold to the high level of service to God and to your fellowman. So live and serve that those who know you will be inspired to finer living. We have too many who use their strength and their brains to exploit others and to gain selfish ends. I charge you to be among those who dedicate their skills and ability to the common good. Build America on the solid foundation of clean living, honest work, unselfish citzenship and reverence for God; and, whatever others may do, you will leave behind you a record of which every other Scout may be justly proud. Your conduct along the trail has been excellent. You have rededicated yourself to the principles of Scouting. But one more thing is important -- your future. As an Eagle Scout, you become a guide to other Scouts. You become an example in your community. Remember that your actions are now a little more conspicuous and people will expect more of you. To falter in your responsibility would reflect not only on you, but on your fellow Eagles and all of Scouting. The torch you carry is not only yours but is also ours. Congratulations." I have heard it and know it exists, however, would you mind sending a copy. Thanks. I happen to be the Eagle's advisor, and went through hell trying to convince the father to even hold a ceremony. I guess its due to his being involved with the Girl Scouting movement, and that he might not actually realize the importance of the Eagle award. To him, it is in fact, just another badge. His wife wants to put a baseball bat to his head, but what else can I say. These are the field experiences. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= From: WKUVX2::WALTOML "Settummanque, the blackeagle" Eagle Scout Charge: "I have the honor to give you the Eagle Scout charge on the occasion of your elevation to the highest award in Scouting.
