The "Staff" of "The Sight Picture" are two Army Reserve Soldiers: Sergeant First Class Chris Farley and Sergeant Josh Tverberg.
The two-person broadcast team engineers, travels, shoots, edits and perform post-production work on various products used by this command in projecting the positive image of the 88th Regional Readiness Command to the public. Additionally, they have a LOT of great fun doing the various projects, even if the cussing and tossing around of things in the broadcast studio room sometimes indicate otherwise!!
The Army and its Army Reserve has about a hundred or so broadcast journalists -- carrying the Military Occupational Speciality of "46 Romeo" (46R). After basic training, they attend the Defense Information School (DINFOS) and learn the craft of creating pieces through video and film. They then are assigned to military organizations whereby they actually LEARN AND HONE the craft, making it an art form, from veterans and more senior NCOs (sergeants, like Sergeant First Class Farley).
"The Sight Picture" is totally the idea of these two broadcasters. Young people today don't read through magazines and printed publications like their parents do; they like to skim through the magazine. "The Sight Picture" -- a 15 minute video program which is shown on several cable outlets in the Region -- allows for quick stories to be told, in a different and tongue-in-cheek manner than those "traditional video press releases" which are staples in the Army broadcaster's "kit bag." The two lobbied, sought and obtained permission to post their previous editions onto "You Tube", one of the most popular social networking and video sharing sites in the world. They receive between a thousand to three thousand hits each month -- with some "episodes" receiving several times that amount because of the timely topics that were addressed.
We are proud to showcase their work to the public -- and by doing so, illustrate that the Army Reserve and indeed the Army itself -- is not full of "gun toting men and women ready to take on the world through mayhem and bullets..." but rather your neighbors and friends -- and people like Chris and Josh, who uses their talents and skills along with knowledge and training they received through the Army -- neighbors and friends who tell the Army Reserve story through the stories and segments found on "The Sight Picture."
